How Does Advertisement Work?

Updated: Jul 12

Google Ads

As per research, there are 2.3 million searches conducted on Google every second, and the majority of search results include Google ads. Google ads are paid by businesses, and it is a very effective means of attracting traffic to your ad.

What are Google Ads?

Google offers paid advertisements that show up in search results whenever you type something in. Google ads help bring up advertisements on other websites with the help of the Display Network and Google's AdSense program.

Moreover, Google also offers Display Ads. These types of advertisements appear on the Google Display Network. This network is a collection of thirdparty websites that have made a deal with Google and have agreed to serve Google ads. The Google ads can either be of the image format, the video format, or rich media format.

The auction for Google Ads depends on keywords. Advertisers have to choose a list of words that fit their business the best. They choose words that people are most likely to search for. Then they place a bid on their keywords based on how much they want to pay for someone to click on their ad.

This bid is then combined with Quality Score, assigned by Google, depending on how good your ad is. Then this score decides which Google Ads should appear on SERP. When the users click on the ad, the advertiser has to pay a cost called the cost per click (Word-stream, n.d.).

Instagram Ads

Instagram is the most trending platform to advertise on. It has become one of the biggest platforms, just like Facebook. In April 2017, Instagram successfully hit more than 700 million monthly active users. That is double the number of users on Twitter.

The idea of posting high-quality and amazing visuals create an opportunity for businesses to post attractive pictures to attract the audience. They can do this even if they do not have a tangible product. All they need to do is add in a hashtag, and they will be connecting with their audience.

Why Advertise on Instagram?

Instagram is a platform that is growing fast day by day. It doesn't seem to stop anywhere. Studies say that the number of companies using Instagram has doubled since 2016. In March 2016, there were only 200,000 accounts that were using the business profile feature.

By March 2017, 1 million accounts were seen advertising on Instagram. That is incredible growth. Marketers are well aware that investing their time and effort on Instagram will pay off. Here are why all businesses should be active on Instagram to promote their products, services, and brand:

1. Anyone can use it and advertise on it.

2. You can quickly get target audiences through Facebook because it owns Instagram.

3. The engagement of the audience is unlimited. Businesses can easily interact with users in their comments section and on their photos.

4. Ads will look like any other post on Instagram. If you own a business and are looking to increase the awareness of your brand, get more clicks on your website or generate sales in general, Instagram is where you should be (Patel, n.d.).

Facebook Advertisements Facebook advertising has become a necessity for businesses all over the world, which is why more than 6 million companies are using Facebook to advertise their brand, their products, and their services to the world.

How Do Facebook Ads Help?

Customers Spend Most of Their Time on Facebook

80% of internet users use Facebook. This includes users above the age of 65. Facebook has billions of users, and they each check their Facebook page several times a day. Regardless of who these users are, they are using it every day. A huge benefit for businesses is that the users use a certain platform every day.

Facebook Uses the Most Targeted Form of Advertising

One notable benefit of advertising on Facebook is that it has the power to reach the audience you require. Facebook is the most targeted form of advertising. On Facebook, you can easily advertise to people according to their age, habits, likes, and location. If you know your customers well, you can use Facebook to engage with them.

It is the Cheapest Form of Advertising

Facebook is the cheapest form of advertising. All you have to spend is $5 and be able to reach 1,000 people. You do not have to spend on radio ads, commercials on television, printing for the billboards, or any other media to reach your audience.

It is Fast

Facebook advertising is fast. It gives you immediate results. You can easily reach thousands of people in a day. Therefore, if you are looking to quickly attract traffic to your brand, Facebook is the best choice.

Facebook Helps Increase Brand Awareness

Advertising on Facebook automatically builds awareness of your brand. It is a great way to show people what you have to offer. The more people are familiar with your brand, the more likely they are to buy your products when they need them (Sherman, 2019).

Techniques for Advertising in Visual Marketing Visual

marketing is everywhere. It could be billboards or even your mobile pop-up ads. Visual advertising is another best approach to reach your customers. Visual advertising does not really mean selling a product. Sometimes it is only to market an idea or a fantasy that the brand has to offer. Ad designers and creators have to depend on many tricks to reach the audience and succeed in their visual advertising. Some of these tricks may seem technical; however, more psychology is involved.

These techniques are not really rules on how to create the best visual advertisement. Instead, it is information at the designer's and marketing professional’s end. They are present to help creators come up with innovative ideas to advertise. The most important thing to keep in mind when applying these techniques is to remember the target market and think of what they will respond to best. The following are some techniques that designers and creators follow:

Color Psychology

The use of color is the first technique. This is a technique that is used every single time in every type of visual marketing. This technique is easily confused. A slightly different tone of color could end up giving the wrong emotion with the wrong message. Creative advertising depends on interesting colors to send out a message without having to use obvious words.

Composition

Similar to color psychology, it is important to have a balanced composition. Composition refers to the placement of the elements in visual space. A composition can have several purposes. It could grab the viewer's eye to a specific point, or it could help create a flow of vision from top to bottom. The basic composition rules are Gestalt principles, including simplicity, synchrony, and association.

Rule of Thirds and The Golden Mean

Other than Gestalt principles, designers use other techniques to create the right balance of vision. This is called the rule of thirds and the golden mean. These are the tools that help the designer decide where to place the elements to make the advertisement appealing. The rule of thirds cuts the canvas into six equal rectangles. This makes it easier for the designer to place elements at the cross points off the rectangles to give importance to the elements while maintaining a visual balance. 35 THE KEYWORDS The golden mean is another tool that is used to follow the ratio of the Fibonacci sequence. In the same way, this tool is intended to direct the placement of the elements in a smooth manner.

The Focal Point

Choosing a focal point is just as important as choosing a color theme. The viewer has to have a clear space to start as they understand and absorb the advertisement's message.

The Visual Path

As the focal point, a visual path is a technique to control the viewer's gaze and lead it to a specific element. In this context, the visual path leads the viewer on a journey through the advertisement's content. When someone sees a visual graphic, they use a path to follow to scan the whole image. The world of visual advertising is growing daily. However, techniques such as color psychology and gaze control will always be necessary regardless of the means of advertisement. The visual advertising techniques that you choose will depend on the message you are looking to convey. While creating your own graphics, you should think of the consumer and keep things as simple as possible. If you want to create a bigger impact with advertisements on TV or specially designed apps, you will have to get in touch with a professional designer who is aware of these things. Whatever you choose to do, make sure that you are doing it to reach the audience and not to pass-by them (Velarde, n.d.).
